Delete your account
You can permanently delete your My AFib Companion account, and everything stored with it, from inside the app. It takes about a minute, you do not need to email anyone, and you do not need an active subscription.
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. There is no grace period, no archive, and no way to recover the data afterwards — not by the developer, not by Apple, not by anyone. If there is any chance you will want your history later, export a copy first. It takes thirty seconds.
Step 1 — Export a copy first (strongly recommended)
Once your account is gone, your logged episodes, medication history, check-ins and readings are gone with it. Take a copy before you go.
- Open My AFib Companion.
- Go to the More tab.
- Tap Export Data.
- Choose All Time as the date range.
- Tap Export Data.
- When the share sheet appears, tap Save to Files and pick a location — On My iPhone or iCloud Drive. You can also email it to yourself or AirDrop it to a computer.
Choose a destination before you dismiss the share sheet. The app removes the temporary file the moment the sheet closes. If you swipe it away by mistake, just export again.
You will get a CSV file — AFibCompanion_Export_<date>.csv — containing your episodes, medications, medication logs, daily check-ins and health readings. It opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets.
Worth doing as well: generate a doctor report from Insights › Doctor Report (choose 90 Days) and save that PDF too. It captures your symptoms, triggers, adherence and lifestyle record in readable form, which the CSV does not.
If the app is locked behind the paywall, you can still do all of this. Tap Export or Delete My Data on the locked screen, then Export Data.
Step 2 — Cancel your subscription, if you have one
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription, and it does not stop Apple charging you.
These are two separate things held by two separate companies. Your subscription belongs to your Apple ID and is managed entirely by Apple. Your account belongs to My AFib Companion. Deleting one has no effect on the other, and the developer has no ability to cancel an Apple subscription on your behalf.
If you delete your account without cancelling, your subscription keeps renewing and you keep being charged for an app you no longer have an account on.
Cancel it first
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the very top of the list (Apple Account on iOS 18 and later, Apple ID on earlier versions).
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap My AFib Companion (Apple lists it under its App Store name).
- Tap Cancel Subscription, then confirm.
If Cancel Subscription is not shown, it is already cancelled and simply has not expired yet.
Alternative: App Store app › your profile picture, top right › Subscriptions › My AFib Companion › Cancel Subscription.
Do this before deleting your account — it is far easier while you can still open the app, though the Settings path above works regardless.
On the free trial? Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you will not be charged at all.
Already paid for this month or year? Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not refund the current period. Only Apple can issue refunds — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Step 3 — Delete the account
- Open My AFib Companion and make sure you are signed in and connected to the internet. Deletion has to reach the server, so it cannot be done offline.
- Go to the More tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account (in red, below Sign Out).
- Read the summary of what will be removed.
- In the confirmation field, type DELETE in capital letters. The delete button stays disabled until you do.
- Tap Delete My Account.
- A final alert appears. Tap Delete Forever.
That is it. Your data is erased and you are signed out.
If the app is locked behind the paywall: tap Export or Delete My Data on the locked screen, then Delete Account. The same flow, reachable without subscribing. Being unsubscribed never stands between you and deleting your own data.
If you see “Failed to delete account. Please try again or contact support.” — the request did not reach the server. Check your connection and try once more. If it keeps failing, email bgwinnature@gmail.com from the address on your account and the deletion will be carried out manually.
What is erased
From the server, immediately
Your account record is deleted, and every row attached to it is removed with it:
- Your profile — email address, display name, AFib type, diagnosis date, date of birth, biological sex, and your emergency contact’s name and phone number.
- Every AFib episode you logged, together with all the symptoms and triggers recorded against each one.
- All medications — names, dosages, schedules and categories.
- All medication logs — every dose marked taken, missed or skipped, and the entire adherence history.
- All daily check-ins — mood, alcohol, caffeine, sleep, stress, exercise and hydration entries.
- All health readings the app stored — heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability and step counts. Those four are the only Apple Health types the app uploads; your ECGs, irregular rhythm notifications, AFib burden, blood oxygen and sleep are read on the phone and never sent to the server in the first place.
- Every generated insight — weekly summaries, trigger correlations and adherence analysis.
These are removed by database cascade, which means they go when the account record goes. Nothing is left behind for later cleanup.
From your iPhone, immediately
The app also wipes its own storage on the device:
- The entire local database — episodes, symptoms, triggers, medications, medication logs, check-ins, insights and health readings.
- All app settings and preferences.
- The data your Home Screen widgets read from, so they stop showing your information.
- Cached and temporary files, including any export or report still sitting in the app’s temporary folder.
The sign-in record
The credential that lets you sign in — your email address and either your hashed password or the identifier issued by Sign in with Apple — is held separately by the authentication service, and the in-app deletion does not currently erase it. It can only be removed server-side. Email bgwinnature@gmail.com and it will be deleted within 30 days.
No health data is attached to that record — by the time it is removed, everything described above is already gone. Until it is removed, signing in again simply creates a new, empty account; none of your old records come back.
We would rather tell you about this gap than let you assume it is not there. Work to make the removal automatic is underway. If you would like written confirmation once your sign-in record has been removed, say so in your email and you will get a reply.
What is not erased
Some things sit outside the app entirely, and deleting your account has no effect on them.
Your Apple Health data — completely untouched
My AFib Companion has read-only access to Apple Health and has never written a single record to it. Everything in your Health app — your heart rate history, your ECGs, your AFib History, your sleep and steps — is yours, stored by Apple, and entirely unaffected by deleting your account here. It stays exactly as it is.
To revoke the app’s access to Health (which is separate from deleting your account):
Health app › your profile picture, top right › Apps and Services › AFib Companion › Turn Off All
If you delete the app from your phone, iOS revokes that access anyway.
Your App Store subscription
Held by Apple, not by this app. See Step 2 above — you must cancel it separately, or it keeps renewing.
Apple’s own records
Your purchase history, receipts and payment records belong to Apple and are governed by Apple’s policies and by tax law. Neither you nor the developer can remove them from Apple’s systems.
Anything you exported or shared
CSV files you saved, doctor reports you sent to your clinician, and copies you emailed to family are ordinary documents in your own possession. Delete those yourself, wherever you put them.
Emails you have sent to support
If you have written to bgwinnature@gmail.com, that correspondence sits in an ordinary email inbox and is not part of your account. Ask and it will be deleted too.
After you delete
- You are signed out immediately and returned to the welcome screen.
- You can create a brand-new account whenever you like — with the same email address, or with Sign in with Apple. It starts completely empty. None of the old data comes back, because it no longer exists.
- A new account does not come with a new free trial. The App Store grants the introductory trial once per Apple ID, not once per account, so if you have already used it the app will ask you to subscribe rather than offer a trial it cannot deliver.
- You can delete the app from your iPhone afterwards if you wish: touch and hold the icon on the Home Screen, tap Remove App, then Delete App. Deleting the app on its own does not delete your account — the account and its server data survive an uninstall, which is why the steps above matter.
Need help with any of this?
Email bgwinnature@gmail.com.
My AFib Companion is built and supported by one person. Most emails are answered within 2 business days. If you have not heard back within 5 business days, please send it again — messages do occasionally go astray.
If you cannot get into the app at all and need your account deleted, write from the email address on the account, say clearly that you want the account deleted, and it will be handled manually. You will get confirmation when it is done.
